Easter weekend 2017 in Florence!

I'm planning a solo trip to Rome April 10th through the 21st. It'll be my first trip to Europe. I can't wait! I'm planning to take the train to Florence on April 14 through April 16 so that I can spend Easter in Florence. Should I be worried that none of the museums, churches, shops, sights, restaurants will be open? I really don't want to miss out on seeing places I've dreamed about for years.

You might want to extend your stay in Florence to be sure, I am sure it will be a zoo but and interesting spectacle. I was in Madrid for Easter 2001. It was actually pretty calm and I did witness an extremely solemn Easter procession. Book ahead online for the Uffizi and the Academia. I was in Rome and Florence (also solo) around All Saints Day a few weeks ago (November 1) and it was really crazy with Italian tourists in Rome in particular. I suspect Easter time might be similar. Book hotels far in advance, single rooms are not the norm. I am sure you will have a great visit.

I looked at Florence for Easter but decided to pass for the countryside instead to avoid crowds (just a personal preference). I remember seeing that some museums were supposed to have extra opening hours. I'd recommend doing thorough research to avoid any disappointments. When you select a hotel, you could always try asking them for assistance with determining opening hours as well. And congrats on your first trip!!! It's so exciting :)

Thanks, everyone! I already have my hotel reserved. Maybe I'll extend my stay.

We will be there for Easter as well (arriving on Thursday, 4/13 and leaving Easter Monday). I have been told that the churches are usually open due to the holiday but you still have mind any Monday closings (https://www.walksofitaly.com/blog/travel-tips/easter-holidays-italy)

First, we are considering attending the Explosion of the cart (so you may want to look in to it if you have not already): https://www.visitflorence.com/florence-events/explosion-of-the-cart-easter.html

Also, I like this .pdf and I'm waiting to see how often they will update it:

The Exploding Cart is the main reason I want to spend Easter in Florence. Thanks for the links!
