Easter Sunday in Rome

So as it happens, I will be spending two weeks in Italy beginning Easter weekend. I will be bookending my trip with visits to Rome as I am flying in and out from there.

Just wondering if anyone has any advice for Easter Sunday as I will be there then. In terms of museums/restaurants, etc being open first of all. I imagine the Vatican will be an absolute zoo on that day so I don't intend on doing anything other than perhaps visiting St Peter's Square for the atmosphere. The Vatican museums will be closed that day anyway so will hope to visit on the backend of my trip. Any other advice/pitfalls I should be aware of? It sure seems like it will be an interesting time to visit!

Lots of pilgrims for sure. To see which museums are open you need to go to the individual websites. But unless a museum closes on Sundays, like the Vatican Museums, they should be open. Restaurants will be open for sure, especially in the city center (some in the outskirts might close, but not in downtown). Some small shops might be closed, but not too many in the city center.

Hi acraven. No, I have not bought tickets yet, and the only options available at this point are a guided tour (which is better than nothing) or "breakfast or lunch at the Vatican museums" which adds another €10 to the cost. Not dealbreaking, but still. My initial intention had been to do this trip in May, but circumstances intervened so here I am!
