My husband and I have planned to travel by train from Florence to Venice on Saturday, April 4. Our plan has been to be in Venice Saturday afternoon through Monday evening before continuing on to Germany. However, we overlooked the fact that April 5 and 6 are Easter Sunday and Monday. Will everything be closed both days? Will we be able to get in Saint Mark’s Basillica? Doge’s Palace? Restaurants? Thank you in advance for any information or tips on what to do!
Restaurants will be open, churches will be open, museums should be open but check individual websites. Vaporetti (water buses) will operate. The only things that generally close are business offices, government offices, banks, most stores (but in the historical center of Venice not much).
It will be crowded on that weekend.
Remembert that Easter Sunday being a major religious festivity, churches will be mostly open for services and not for tourism. I would expect visits to St. Marks' being limited to a few hours in early afternoon. Also, I would reserve restaurants with some advance.
Thank you for the information!
