Easter Sunday and Easter Monday in Florence

We are going to Easter Mass at the Duormo at 7:30a and stay for 'scoppio del carro' Fireworks. I understand that the Duormo Museum will be really crowded that day and since we'll be there for a week I was trying to think what else we could do for the afternoon. We were also going to go to Pisa/Lucca on Easter Monday but the person we are renting the Apartment from thought that too might be difficult as so many people will be traveling that day. If we don't go to Pisa/Lucca what should we do instead. I'm thinking Florence might still be crowded but would it be a good day to see the Pitti Palace for example? We have the Friends of the Florence Card so we can go in and out of museums.

We spent last Easter Sunday in Florence and saw the scoppio del carro. It was very crowded...like Time Square on New Years Eve. It is vital to get there early. There were also parades going on the night before so fun to be there the night before as well. Very colorful. I recommend reservations for Easter dinner....you won't be able to get in anywhere without them. We ate at Natalinos. It was good. I recommend the pear pasta with gogonzola sauce. We didn't try to do the museums that day because of the crowds plus they might have been closed due to the holiday. We did walk up to Piazza Michaelangelo and enjoyed the views of the city and did some shopping in the market. It was fabulous. Easter Monday is a holiday in Italy as well. We did a drive thru the Tuscan Countryside that day. There was a flea market going in Greve that was fun. I would recommend you drive to Greve then to San Gimignano and back to Florence..that would be a lovely day. Enjoy! Italy is so romantic and beautiful. We loved it.
