Not sure why you have posted the same question a minute apart. Not sure what you are asking? Easter is the same in Italy as the US -- April 9, 2023.

If by Spring break you mean the practice of university students of taking a vacation somewhere and get drunk, that is more of an American students’ thing. Some American students may choose to spend their spring break in the localities you mention, therefore in that case, the dates will be the same as those observed by American universities.

Easter is on the same date in both countries: April 9, 2023 (like in the US).

Italian schools, of all levels, including those in Campania where Amalfi is located, close the Thursday before Easter (April 6 in 2023) and reopen the following Tuesday (April 11 in 2023). Universities follow a similar calendar, however right around that time, Universities hold exam sessions, therefore it is a time when university students study like crazy, rather than going around getting drunk. In my university years, Easter week was a hell of a time, in many cases, because I had to study hard.

France closes schools (elementary to high school) for a longer period in Spring. The very centralized Ministry of Education has divided the country in 3 zones, and each zone closes for a couple of weeks but with staggered dates. Zone B, to which Provence belongs, will close from April 15 to May 2 in 2023. I’m not sure this applies to universities as well. The full calendar from the Ministry of Education is below:

The issue is not when is Easter, but when do schools have a spring break. Some places will have the week before, some the week after Easter. To complicate planning, some will have both. We were once in Rome the week before Easter. There were many school groups in the line for the Vatican Museum. We heard English (British), French, German, and Spanish being spoken. I believe that many Italian families also seize that time for a break on the Amalfi Coast.
To the op, I suspect you can google to find the information you want. Get reservations lined up early, like NOW. If places are showing no availability, call. Many lodging sites don’t show availability for next year until well after Jan. 1.

First I posted twice once in Italy forum and once in France.

I know when Easter is. I wanted to know if there was extended holiday/spring break during the Easter time frame.

Thank you.

Thank you Roberto da Firenza and Rosalyn. That is the information I needed. And Roberto I am taking you up on your advice to stay in Positano instead of Sorrento.
