Easter in Venice

We will be in Venice for Easter 2016 (Thursday through Monday). Does anyone know of any parades or other festivities? I've tried researching what to expect, but haven't found much. We hope to find an Easter Sunday church service to join in on and would love to see a local celebration somewhere.

I don't know about processions and festivities in Venice during Easter, but Holy Week (beginning the Monday after Palm Sunday the weekend before) is the most significant period of the Catholic calendar so the churches should be pretty active. On Holy Thursday, there should be an evening mass where the ritual 'washing of the feet of the disciples' is re-enacted; on Good Friday there will be Mass in the afternoon (normally 3pm), a solemn affair after which the altar is stripped down. Easter Saturday is the time of vigil and churches should be open at night, with prayer services, before the celebrations of Easter Sunday. You could check the websites of the major churches in Venice in the weeks leading up to Easter to see if they have special festivities planned. Easter Monday is a public holiday in Italy. Hopefully someone else on the forum will have more information for you!
