Easter in Venice

Hello,

Me, my husband and our two boys (12&14) will be traveling to Venice April 15 through the 17th. Wondering what to expect during the Easter weekend. We've booked our accommodations in Cannaregio. And are currently looking to reserve a fun restaurant for a late Easter dinner away from the crowds. Nothing fancy as we will be traveling light. Will everything be closed? Bakeries on Easter morning etc. museums? Shops? Will No reservation required restaurants or bars be open? Or do we need to make reservations for every single meal that weekend? Should we grocery shop upon arrival and make our own meals at the apartment instead? Any Easter celebrations we can see? Would love to make this special for the boys as it will be their first Easter away from home. Many questions, I know, but cannot seem to find answers needed online. Thank you!

Megan, if you don't get info here, contact your apartment owner, they should know what's going on.

I was in Venice for Easter in 2013 and I didn't find much closed. After mass at San Marco Basilica (it was lit brilliantly for mass), we did the Secret Itineraries of the Doges palace tour, then did our ride up then back on the #1 vaporetto. We strolled on Strado Nuova, near where you'll be staying, and found several places to eat. I can't remember where we stopped, but I can tell you it was delicious. I don't remember many shops being closed either.. Have fun!

Zoe, Thank you for the suggestion! I sent an email yesterday asking the apartment owner her thoughts on Easter.

Debbie, What a relief to know the city wont be completely shuttered while we are there. Secret Itineraries sounds like something we should consider. Thank you!
