Easter in Tuscany

I asked earlier about travel at Easter--is it a holiday? how long do they celebrate? will things be closed? Will it be busy? Someone emailed me an answer but I lost it from my computer before I read it so could you respond again or anyone else who can help me as I only have a week and don't want to go and have everything closed Thanks Charlotte

Yes some things will be closed. I'd forget any major attraction Good Friday until Tuesday after Easter (alot is closed on Monday anyway). On the PLUS side it'll be a wonderful experience to celebrate Easter in a traditional way. Resturants may be packed however with very large extended families. If you have never been to Tuscany and have only a week I guess I'd recommend going after Easter. Check on the web for opening/closing times for major attractions. You can also buy tickets in advance for the Uffuzi etc. to shave off some waiting around time. Advance tickets aren't always necessary but with only one week I'd hedge my bets.

Easter in Italy is like XMAS day in the States; very few businesses are open. Buses do run but are on festival schedule. Surprisingly the Monday AFTER Easter is almost the same. It is also a holiday and many businesses take advantage of the LONG weekend and are closed. Buses again are on festival schedule. So Friday, Sunday & Monday are unusual days during that week! This year I lost a bet when we could not find a neighborhood market open anywhere in Rome on Easter Monday....

Do some research on the web for places to visit which are normally open--such as parks, historical sights and others you can think of. When you arrive ask several natives what they will suggest for you. Plan half of the day to rest if you can use it.
