Easter in Southern Italy

Hello-
I am going to be staying in Agropoli, Italy for a extended amount of time which will include the Easter Holiday. I was wondering if anyone out there has any suggestions on a town to experience the Good Friday processions in Southern Italy?

Thanks!
Kelly

Agropoli probably has one as it is commonplace in the south. I know for sure there is an amazing Good Friday procession on the island of Procida but that is off Naples and maybe too far north for you to reach. I would check with tourist information when you arrive - there is a tourist information office in Piazza della Repubblica.
There may even be some Easter ceremonies at the temples at Paestum.

Hello Kelly,

I spent last Easter in Sorrento and was able to experience two Good Friday processions. The first, the Processione del Venerdi Santo (also known as the "white procession") was at three in the morning. The other, La Processione del Cristo Morto (also known as the "black procession") was at nine in the evening. They were somewhat similar, but quite an experience. It was amazing to see hundreds of people standing along the roadside, noisy until the procession began, then it was incredibly quiet and reverent. It was so interesting to watch this very old tradition. Hope you can find someplace you'll enjoy as much.
