Easter in Sicily Tour 2022 - or go in late Sept/Oct?

Hi - a question for anyone who has done the RS Sicily tour... or planning to go in April

Im still debating if I should change my RS Sicily tour during Easter - to one later in the year late Sept/ early Oct?
While I think it may be great to spend a huge holiday in another culture where it is the biggest event of the year - I wondered if anyone had noticed any major closures to the major attractions during the whole week? Mainly interested in the ancient outdoor sites being open on most of the days - but looking forward to some more relaxed time with locals doing local things on the holiday day off too?

Are there any big benefits to going in Spring/Easter - or waiting for Sept/Oct?

I think you might enjoy the weather more in April. I'm sure it will still be quite hot in September, and all the grasses will be brown after months of hot temperatures. We were in Sicily on Easter once (Caltagirone, a smaller town) and enjoyed the parades. Easter Monday is also a holiday in Italy.

I’m just interest in how you would be able to change your dates . With all the tours booked solid and so many people on a waiting list for nearly all the tours, how does it work that you can change a date on a “whim” ?. We are waitlisted for a couple tours, one being Sicily, and after a call to the office, we are around the 22nd in the lineup…no chance really..

Hi Janet - thanks for the input - I was wondering how warm/hot it gets in late Sept that far south, and thought maybe Oct may be better if not in spring when all the greenery and flowers are out. Although I know rain can be present too based on another April/May Italy tour I did!

Hi Judy - I will have to disagree with you that I am making any changes "on a whim" - I do take put a lot of planning into my trips usually years in advance. I signed up fairly quickly when 2022 opened up. I also very much realize there is a wait list for most all the trips, but that said I found some alternatives (Adriatic) that had some new openings. If I do change I would can either apply for an open tour or get my deposit back and put myself on the wait lists. You may want to check the new listings yourself as RS is adding more tour dates (various times of the year). I know there is also always 2023 and that the ancient sites will surely last one more year after centuries and millennia! :)

We were in Sicily in mid October and temperatures were perfect, warm not hot.

We are taking one of the Sicily tours that is during Easter and I’m excited! Since Rick has been doing these tours during Easter for years I’m sure they have activities all planned around any closures that could pop up. But the big treat will be seeing how the Sicilians celebrate this holiday.

I went on the Rick Steves Sicily tour specifically at Easter time. I loved it. It was interesting to watch all the pageantry and I did not notice anything closing in particular related to the holiday except for a regular Sunday closures.

We were on the Sicily tour in mid-April 2016 (not Easter). The weather was beautiful. We spent time in Rome before and after the tour, and also arrived in Palermo a couple of days before the tour started.

We were on the Best of Sicily tour October 8-18, 2019, the temperatures were perfect for touring. Upper 60s to upper 70s. Maybe one day of rain.
