Easter in Rome

Planning a late March early April trip to Rome but our dates are somewhat flexible. Will the city be crazy with tourists that close to Easter?

Late March and all of April is a great time to visit Italy. Not over crowded, it's before high season, prices are a bit lower. The weather should be good, the temperatures comfortable.

Rome is always busy at Easter - people are taking advantage of spring break and pilgrims are headed to the Vatican. Rome is big enough to handle the influx but the Vatican will be very crowded during Holy Week.

We were in Rome the week after Easter and didn't feel that it was overly croweded. Much less than it was in June! We had no lines to get into St. Peters/Vatican Museum and were in the square for the Pope's Sunday morning blessing - without getting pushed and shoved everywhere!
