We are flying into Rome a few days before Easter 2026. Overnight flight arriving around noon.
We were thinking of staying overnight in Rome for ONE night and then renting a car to drive to Assisi- arriving Friday before Easter.
Should I rent the car on the way out of Rome after staying overnight (since parking in Rome is such a hassle)? Felt we might be too tired to drive to Assisi after such a long flight.
This is our 3rd trip to Italy & I should have planned better since it is EAster time. We are planning 2-3 nights in Assisi which includes Easter in Assisi.
Will it be easy to drive from Assisi to neighboring towns after Easter? I was thinking Orvieto or Spello or Spoleto?
Specific Suggestions welcome. What Town would be a nice place to stay for 3 days?
I have time to travel before meeting up with Family at the end of April in the north of Italia around April 18th.
So travel ideas from April 5th to April 18th appreciated. TIA
I would look at RS Village Italy itinerary and see if some of that interests you. We really enjoyed our time in Orvieto. We also enjoyed Padua and Ravenna.
We were there over Easter last year along with the pope’s death. Assisi was incredibly crowded, Padua, Orvieto, and Ravenna, not so much.
I can’t help with driving. After three tickets we don’t anymore.
Thank you. Appreciate your help
Might I suggest taking the train from Rome to Assisi and renting a car in Assisi? It could save some of the hassle getting out of Rome. In any case, Easter in Assisi sounds lovely. Light a candle for me! Enjoy!
We did a tour with Road Scholar that visited Umbria.
We stayed in Spoleto and visited Assisi, Perugia, Gubbio and Orvieto(on our way to Rome).
Assisi is special and you need a full day to see it.
Perugia and Spoleto were great, but Orvieto would be my recommendation. The cathedral there is special. If you stay 3 nights in Assisi, you could do a day trip to Perugia and still visit Orvieto on your way to Rome.
