Easiet to get to and leave from Venice train station or airport?

I see that getting to the airport is a big hassle and leaving from there can be too. Is it easier to get to the train station and leave from there too instead of by plane?

I saw your other post on this topic. The train station is closer to the canals and sights of Venice. But as someone else said, you can be at the airport in a $45 cab ride. If you take a train to another city you still have to pay for the train, and then transport yourself out of the train station. This can't possibly be easier, unless you are looking to add another city to your trip anyway.

Yes, train station (Santa Lucia) is easier (and cheaper) to get to than the airport.

where are you going?
Obviously the station is closer, it's right inside the historical center on the grand canal (the trains travel on the bridge to the middle of the lagoon), while the airport is away in the mainland.

This is confusing. If your plan is to visit Venice (what hassle would be an obstacle)

Have you not yet bought plane or train tickets and are planning your trip?
Are you basing your entire journey on the ease of getting to or from the airport or train station ?
Is price a factor ? Taking a water taxi is very easy.
If you give yourself plenty of time and travel "light" not really a problem unless you make it one.

I have not set my itinerary in stone yet and can visit Venice in between other cities in Italy so I can just use trains to get there and leave there or I can arrange it for Venice to be the last place to visit and leave on a plane. Just seems that a plane from Florence or Bologna may be easier.

if you use Venice as your last stop you are likely to find that your flight home leaves the airport very early which then means an extremely early journey to the airport.

flying out of Rome is much easier, or Milan.

Both Florence and Bologna have their airports very close to the city center (20 min by taxi max). However there are no direct flights from either airport to North America, therefore you will have at least one connection in a European major hub. Both FLR and BLQ have several flights to CDG,AMS,FCO,FRA,MUC,ZRH. BLQ also has several flights to LHR and CPH.

I will be leaving Italy and going to Paris for a few days and leave from Paris to USA. I just had read that Venice airport is a mess and there is construction going on so I wondered if it would be best to leave from some other place in Italy to Paris

The best solution will likely depend on where else you'll be going. It would help to have a better idea of your overall Itinerary. As your eventual destination is Paris, my preference would be to go by train with a few stops along the way, perhaps in Switzerland. Travel by high speed train from Basel to Paris is very easy and very quick. You could also venture towards Nice and then travel by high speed train from there.

There are two train stations in Venice. Santa Lucia on the island and Mestre in the city. The airport, Marco Polo and both train stations are easily accessed by bus. You can look up the bus schedule on line, just goole! You can take the bus to the airport from the islands #5, takes....15-20 min. and it is cheap. You can walk to both train and bus on th islands, or take a water taxi. If you are traveling on in Italy on the train you take the train from Santa Lucia to Mestre and change there. It really is so easy and doesn't cost much. Try ATVO, it is the bus. Trainline Europe is the train. Google away ..Ciao

If you're going to Paris, then definitely check the nearby airports . . . Verona, Bologna, Florence. I start by looking at the wiki page for each airport. Near the bottom there's a chart listing all the airlines using that airport and the cities they fly to. Or do the reverse - check the Orly and CDG pages to find flights to other places (or near them) that you'll be visiting in Italy.
