Hello,
I have reserved a B&B in the small town of Levanto, Italy. I 'think' that is North/West of Cinque Terre. Can you tell me the easiest way to get there? I searched on www.trainline.eu for a train to Levanto from Rome, and it says it has to go all the way up to Milan, and down to Levanto (a 7 hour trip). I'm okay with that, but thought maybe there might be a hidden, or simpler trick to getting to Levanto from Rome.

Look at dates no later than June 10 to see all schedule options reflected, including regional trains. Several departures per day run closer to the coast with a maximum of one connection at La Spezia. The DB link at Looking Up Train Schedules and Routes Online is also good for providing complete schedules (once published) regardless of whether they sell the tickets. Or www.trenitalia.com is going straight to the source.

The key is to get a train that goes non stop from Rome to La Spezia- it's around 3 hrs 45 minutes. From La Spezia to Levanto appears to be a 15 to 20 minute ride.

As the others have mentioned, the best solution is to use one of the direct (no changes) trains from Roma Termini to La Spezia Centrale and then on to Levanto. There are a number of those each day and many more with changes. On the current schedules, there's a departure at 09:57, arriving Levanto at 14:44 and that's the one I'd probably use (time 4H:47M, 1 change in La Spezia). The first segment of that trip is via an Intercity train, which has compulsory seat reservations, and the final segment is via Regionale (no reservations required or possible).
The station in Levanto is a short distance from the town, so a short walk or taxi ride will be required. It's about a 10-15 minute walk from town but very easy.
