Easiest route to Ravello first week in October

Have toured Amalfi coast a few years back. Dear friends hosting daughter’s wedding in Ravello first week in October 2020. Plan to arrive in Rome on a Wednesday morning, need to be in Ravello by late afternoon Friday, and remain through Sunday or Monday, followed by return to Rome for 2-3 days - our adult kids will be accompanying us.

Questions: #1. What’s easiest way to get from Rome to Ravello? We are packing heavier than normal due to need for formalwear. In past visits, we’ve gone from Rome-Naples by train and then car to Positano, followed by ferry to Amalfi. My Italian friends are suggesting high speed train from Rome to Salerno and then ferry or car. Thoughts please.

2. We were thinking of spending an additional day in area to see Amalfi and perhaps Positano or head back to Rome. Again, thoughts as to how to get back and what town to use as base. Ravello doesn’t seem most convenient. Thank you

Fast train to Salerno then ferry or bus to Amalfi where you would change to a bus to Ravello. Or a cab from Amalfi to Ravello.
Or driver from Salerno to Ravello.
The ferry is just a short slightly downhill walk from the station in Salerno and the ride is lovely-weather permitting.
(I'd skip the bus with luggage, ferry is fine)

Amalfi is a good easy base- transportation hub for the coast.

We used Top Excursions Sorrento for a few transfers this past May- very pleased with service and rates. Quite affordable when you consider you've got a group of people. 137€ for up to 8 people

Ferry schedules can get reduced for off-season in October, so be ready to book a Salerno-based car service all the way if necessary. I find it hard to read a real AC ferry schedule ten months in advance.
