Early Train from Venice

Hello, my family and I will be staying in Venice for a few days and I’m trying to find out what train is better for us when we leave to Rome. We would be leaving from the Venezla Santa Lucia station to Rome and the times I’m looking at are, 0725, 0815, & 0925. I don’t know if this question has been asked before but I couldn’t find any reference to it. I did find references to catching an early plane and the issues one might have with that and I was wondering if we would have the same issues with an early train. We will be staying in the San Marco area of Venice. My concerns are if the Vaporetto’s are running that early and how early do we need to arrive before our train leaves.

Thank you for any help. I have received great advice from these Message Boards.

Hi Raymond. The deciding factor is simply how early you want to get up / get going. You could easily make any of those trains. Transportation to the station is easy, and the vaporettos start running early (5am). To allow for unforeseen delays in getting to the station, I usually plan to arrive at a train station 30 minutes ahead, but in reality you can arrive 10 minutes ahead and be fine; there is no check in process; you just find your track # on the sign and board the train. Enjoy your trip!

Here are the vaporetto schedules: http://www.actv.it/sites/default/files/ultimorario.pdf

You want the #2 "express", faster than the #1. As stated above, they start running by 5:00 am so you will have no trouble making that early train. But why would you want to? rush around in the morning, and then get to Rome too early to check in to your hotel.

I look at the trenitalia website and see which one I can get a Supereconomy fare on. The vaporettos run all night. Its called the N boat and it is not as frequent and skips a few stops.

Looking at April 3, the 7:25 is 39 euro Supereconomy, but the 9:25 is available at 29 euro Supereconomy. So pricing varies a bit
