Have an early morning flight to catch from Rome (8:00AM on a weekday in July). We're staying at a hotel near Termini, and they offer airport shuttle services for around 60 euros. The first train is at 6:35AM which is a bit too close for an internation departure. Also, we're a family of 4 with 2 small kids. Any other suggestion for getting from Termini area to Airport early in the morning?
gary, we had an 8:15 am flight and we're staying in the old city, not all that far from Termini. The night before we had the hotel reserve a taxi for 5:00 am. when we got outside he was waiting for us. There is almost no traffic that early, so you could ask him to use the meter, but for us he just suggested the standard flat rate of €40. There might be an extra charge with luggage for 4, not sure. anyway, I would suggest you just talk with your hotel when you are there. But a taxi worked great for us and is easily arranged. Have a great trip.
Just got back from Rome and stayed near Termini. We had a 6:15 a.m. flight. Our hotel arranged for a cab to pick us up at 4:15 a.m. for 45 euros. I was told it was 5 euro extra because of the hour. Anyway, it all worked out great.
Gary,
We fly out early from FCO and CIA often. Like other folks who have posted we called a taxi service the night before. We both use "TIM" service phones and they have a "direct number" you can dial from your cell! Almost all the taxi service numbers have English speaking operators and they will ensure your driver is there.
Because we use the TIM service, the taxi service ALSO sends us a text message to our cell once the cab is in route - usually 5-10 minutes before arrival. If, while waiting for the cab the next morning, we don't get this SMS, we again call the service (only happened once) and they recover and send a taxi.
I think the meter will usually start about 9-11 Euros on an early morning run - but again, you're looking at a 40-45 Euro taxi ride!
Good Luck!
Ciao,
Ron
