Early Morning Ride from Venice to Marco Polo Airport

Hello,
I am traveling to Venice this weekend. My flight back to the US is at 9:40 a.m. If I have to be at the airport 3 hours before the flight, I would have to leave Venice at 6:30 a.m. at the latest.
What transportation could I use to take me to the airport this early? ( My hotel is not far from Rialto Bridge).
Thank you very much.

In ascending price order land bus, water taxi, land taxi, water taxi. I’ve done the two water options. Water bus from San Zaccaria is very slow and a hike to the check in desks, so plan your time accordingly, at least 1 1/2 hours. Water taxi will cost you over €100. To take either land option you need to take the vaporetto to Piazzale Roma.

If you stay in a hotel close to the airport the night before the transport issue is resolved.
I have a hotel highly rated for $70 which is a 12 minute walk from the airport.
I don't take chances with complex or lengthy transport same day of departure.

The Orange line Alilaguna goes directly to the airport without a change to a bus at Piazzale Roma. However, the first run stops at Rialto so pick up passengers at 6:5@ and gets to the airport at 7:48,

The vaporetto plus bus combination (land bus from Piazzale Roma) starts much earlier in the morning, so it would work. It would be much less expensive than a water taxi, but more complicated.

Or you could, as suggested, spend the last night in a hotel at or near the airport. Ot at Piazzale Roma and take the bus or land taxi in the morning.

It is really a matter of cost and your personal comfort zone.

Thank you everyone for your responses.
So I can basically go to Rialto Bridge and wait for the Alilaguna at the stop?
Will 2 hours before the flight be enough for me or do I HAVE to be there 3 hours in advance?
Thank you so much.

Where is your flight going?
I don’t think it will be direct to US that early so you are likely changing somewhere in Europe which means it is not an international flight so you could be OK with 2-2.5 hours

If it is direct to US you need to be there 3 hours on advance

If you want to use the Alilaguna I suggest you buy your ticket in advance, and still get to the dock early because there could be a number of people wanting the same boat. Here is the website:

If you buy your ticket online, you get a “voucher” and still have to exchange it for a ticket. So it is best to just buy the ticket from an office or sales point ahead of time. Here is a list of the locations:

Thank you so much for your responses.

I am going to the US via Istanbul. So it is not considered an international flight?

Ah

Istanbul is outside Schengen so yes
International arrive 3 hours in advance

Being on your way by 6 should be OK

If you can get to the Piazzale Roma and catch the inexpensive busses that go right to the airport.

Thank you for your reply.
So I guess the best option would be to take a vaporetto to Piazalle Roma and get a bus/a cab to the airport from there . Vaporettos start operating before 6:00 a.m., so I guess I should be fine...

If you plan to take the Alilaguna, be sure to get one going the shortest distance to the airport from where you are, if that makes sense.

The boats could be busy.
We have had to wait for the next boat when the first one that came along was packed full.

I would recommend getting the bus from Piazzale Roma to the airport.
Lots of good transport info on this site.
