Hi All! My friends and I have a 6:50 AM flight out of Rome (Fuimicino) on a Sunday (painful! but it met our needs). We're trying to find the best place to stay in order to make it to the airport at a ridiculous hour. Do you try to stay to a certain side of the city? We're not renting a car, so is the hotel setting up a cab the best option? Any advice of how to get out successfully would be appreciated!
Last time we had a flight like this, we sucked it up and stayed at one of the hotels right near the airport. Expensive, and no charm whatsoever. I felt like we had left Italy when we got there, we just coincidentally happened to be physically within the border. Would never do this again ...
General advice here is to stay at your hotel of choice in Rome (the one you've been staying at already, if you've been there more than one night) and have them arrange a taxi to the airport for you. Some more upscale hotels may have a shuttle, but on a Sunday, taxi is your best bet. One advantage of those early morning flights is traffic is minimal, so your hair-raising Italian cab experience occurs on mostly empty streets. :-)
As Liz says, stay in the city and enjoy your last night in Rome. Get your hotel to set up the cab the day before or do it yourself (they have English operators) and save some $$$$. You can always do a shuttle service. For more info on getting to FCO early, CLICK HERE
