Early Flight From Rome FCO-Help!

Hello friends,

We are finishing up our Italy trip in Rome before heading out on a 0600 flight to Brussels. Any suggestions on where to stay? This trip has been planned in a matter of days, so I am unsure if we can 1)stay at a place in Rome proper 2) stay at a hotel near the airport 3)stay at the airport. From what I understand, the airport is not 24 hours? Do cabs or shuttles run at this time? Most cost effective? Thanks so much in advance.

There are a number of reliable 24-hour shuttle services in Rome (Roma Shuttle, just to name one). They can pick you up at your hotel, and drop you off at the airport. This allows you to remain in the city for your final night. The shuttle cost is pretty reasonable, and the one-way trip takes about 40 minutes.

Believe it or not, I was just there recently and stayed at the Hilton Airport Hotel. I was pleasantly surprised at how nice it was, I even had a suite on the 7th floor which also allowed club access for free breakfast, snacks and cocktail reception in the evenings. This hotel also provides a free motor coach transfer to the city...it runs every 2 hours and drops at a very convenient location near the ruins. If your flight is that early in the morning, it will be stress-free because you can just walk to the terminal. I wouldn't depend on someone driving me there that early in the morning. Even though the hotel is at the airport, it is very quiet inside and (big plus) it's air-conditioned!

I agree that one shouldn't waste an evening in Rome at an airport hotel, but why not do all you want to do in Rome for the day, have a nice meal, then head out to the FCO area to save time in the morning?

I think all of this is contingent on how well everyone you're travelling with functions very early in the morning. My husband is NOT an early bird at all, so I've learned that staying near the airport buys us an hour or so in the morning if we're flying red-eye and it's worth it. If everyone is game to get up in the middle of the night, stay wherever you want and party on!

PS - You may be able to score a very cheap but nice airport hotel room on Priceline or Hotwire, too.

I agree with Lamont. We used a shuttle service (I can't remember name and info now, but was called Roma something- could be Roma Shuttle). They pick us up at 5am at hotel. The driver was very professional, dressed in a smart business suit and giving us Roman history lessons on way to airport. Even giving us a cute story about why Pinnochio was everywhere in Rome. I can't remember the cost, but I am thinking it was about 40 to 50 euros.

Ya'll are the best, thank you! I ended up making another Cross Pollinate Reservation with B & B Verbania. They are arranging a taxi for us in the wee morning hours, and we'll be taken care of. Off topic-but CP service has been top notch so far-we're staying in one of their nicer apartments near Vatican City when we first arrive and they have taken care of all the details. Friendly service!

It bugged me, so I did my research. The name of the company we used was Rome Cabs.

Via Garigliano, 66 00198 Rome

I didn't now dates you were traveling, but punch in "City Center" to "FCO" for 7pm to 7am service and was 55 Euros.

They came highly recommended from Tripadvisor. They were fantastic.

Enjoy Rome!
