We have a flight leaving Rome at 6:15am. What is the easiest way to get to the airport that early? Are there any hotels nearby that are good to stay at and convienent when leaving that early?
There are some hotels, but they're usually expensive, so the standard advice on this board is to stay in Rome's center for your last night, then take a taxi to the airport.
erin,
we had our hotel near the termini set up a cab for our early am flight out rome. 45 euros for 2. good luck :):)
Call me crazy, but we plan on spending the night on a bench at Fiumicino the night before our early morning flight out. Close hotels or long taxi rides were out of our budget range. I think it's recommended that you arrive at least 2-3 hours before your flight departure time.....
Jodi, that is what our sons did. They had lots of company and slept well on the plane home. They hung out in Rome till 1 or 2 am and caught the last train to station around 2 AM
It's been a while since anyone mentioned the Sleeping in Airports website, but it gives advice on how to do it at Fiumicino.
We had our hotel at the Pantheon arrange a taxi for our early flight out. I didn't find the hotel airports any more economical and liked having an extra evening in Rome. Our friends stayed at an airport hotel on their trip and found they had to get up just as early because they were taking the hotel shuttle and were told it was going to be crowded. A last night in Rome can be great, because you know which sights you want to see all lit up again.
Mimi has the answer. The hotels at Fiumicino are more expensive. They know why you are there and that you are a one-nighter. Having a taxi show up at 3:00am in the morning is quite common in Rome. They are dependable. It's a 40Euro or so ride but the hotels are often less expensive and may make up the difference. Have a nice evening dinner in Rome the night before.
Jodi would rather sleep on a bench in the airport with her fake designer bag than pay for a taxi. No one will think your Prada bag is fake is you are sleeping at the airport!
we stayed by the airport at the hilton garden and the price wasn't too bad... was very nice before leaving a wonderful trip
Thanks! We are in the CT on the 29th, and planned on taking the very last train from there to Rome, in order to take the metro to Fiumicino Airport. I believe it arrives there at about 1am. Is it possible to spend that much time at the airport before the flight leaves at 6:15am? We just don't see the point in having a hotel for a few hours, when we won't get much sleep anyway, getting up at 3am!
Hi Erin -- don't know about FCO for 100% sure, but you should be able to hang from 1am until your flight. I've done this twice and, while time doesn't exactly fly by, it works. Get a bottle of wine, some snacks and a deck of cards and you are set for a little while. Plus, you make sure you don't miss your flight!
