We are booking travel arrangements with points from our credit card for my daughter. Not many options for times leaving Venice. Looks like it might have to be 6:45am. What is the best way to get to the airport that early in the am on a Saturday and how early should they be there? Thanks
Terri, I had a 7:00 flight out of Venice. I took a very early Alilaguna boat (http://www.alilaguna.it/) that got me to the airport I think about 5:45am. The blue line runs super early and you get dropped off 5 min walk to the terminal. I thought Venice Marco Polo was a small airport and easy to navigate. You can buy your tickets on the boat. I thought the ride was interesting because you see the "other side" of Venice going to the airport.
The first bus leaves Piazzale Roma at 4:35 and gets to the airport at 5:08. The night boat runs all night at 20 minute intervals to get you to P.Roma.
Since Tim told you about the Alilaguna (cheapest one-seat ride) and Sam told you about the vaporetto/bus combo (cheapest ride period, especially if you still have a valid vaporetto pass), I'll tell you about the third way. You can hire a water taxi to the airport. This is the fastest and easiest way (there's probably a dock right at your hotel or very close by). But it's not cheap, at over €100. For several people, it may be worth it to you for the convenience, particularly for an early departure.
Thank you. I looked at the aliluguna times and I think that might work. They will be by the Salute stop and will have to get a night water bus over to San Marco. I think it gets to the airport in plenty of time. Thank you!!
