Early Decemer in Rome

I spend Christmas with my family at home. But, I am thinking of spending part of the pre-Christmas (the first week or two of December ) in Rome.

Is Rome geared up for Christmas that early?

Back home the Christmas decorations are out before Thanksgiving and the various festivities start right after Thanksgiving, but I am not sure the Romans are such early birds when it comes to Christmas decorations and activities. I would love to get some feedback from people who have spent the first or second week of December in Rome.
Thanks.

Rome, and the rest of Italy, kicks off the season on December 8, the day Catholics celebrate the Immaculate Conception. It is lovely to wander in Rome with fewer people and the lovely Christmas lights. Before the 8th, there is a little decorating, not much. You will not hear Christmas music, though. That is saved for Christmas.
