Duomo Stair Climb

We have booked our tickets for Duomo monument site, including climbing Brunelleschi's Dome. Can someone who has previously climbed the dome tell me if there is a handrail on the climb.

Thanks

Hi Sheryl,
I dont remember there being a hand rail. The stairwell is very tight and you will have people coming up/down at the same time.

I climbed it in 2015 and my recollection was that there was a railing on most of the stairs but also sections without any railing. Very narrow and tight quarters especially when there is two-way traffic. But the view at the top is totally worth it!

If you do a search for images of the Duomo stairs there are handrails in most of the pictures but a few section where none are visible.

Sorry, I did it in 1983 and don't remember. The climb was easier than climbing up St. Peter's in Rome.

I climbed the dome in June. There is not a hand rail in all parts of the stairs.

Sheryl,

This is probably the best video regarding climbing the Duomo. I just discovered Andy’s Awesome Adventures on YouTube and they are great. He just left Italy so all his videos are very current for Italy.

It will give you an accurate picture of climbing the Dome.
