I'm planning a return trip to Milan after 20 years away and heard that the Duomo is under renovation and may not be open. I will be there in mid-September. Any news?
It was open in June but covered with traps, scaffolding and not pretty to look at.
Just came back from Italy and its still being renovated. Didnt even see anyone working on it.
We were there a week ago. The bottom half of the front facade is covered, but the top half is visible. I don't recall any big renovations inside.
If you were going to be in Milan for only a few hours, is duomo worth it or would you try to see the Last Supper or any other suggestions.
Last supper is easy if you have a reliable reservation. These are very hard to come by...see related posts. Fortezza just north of cadorna train station on near west side is very good. Also the main shopping area north of duomo.
I went to both the Duomo and The Last Supper, and if I had to choose one I would choose The Last Supper. The painting was wonderful, and only a few (20-30 ish?) people are let into the large room at one time. So you really feel like you can get a good look, and you are not in a crowd. Other family members also really enjoyed the museum associated with La Scala (I drew the short straw and went shopping with the kids!). You apparently get to enter the theater as part of the museum.
