Duomo Climb and the Firenze Card

As I understand it, the Firenze Card covers all of the attractions at Santa Maria del Fiore--the Duomo, the Duomo Museum, the Baptistery, Giotto's Tower, and the Cupula Climb.

Also, what I'm reading indicates that I have to go first to get the Firenze Card, then go to the Duomo Museum to get the Duomo combo ticket and then you can make a reservation for the dome climb.

I've also seen that I can order the combo ticket online and make the reservation now, but I would have to pay for it separately from the Firenze Card.

So here's my question. We are spending a week in Florence this June. If I get the Firenze Card and book the Dumo Climb when we're there, will we be able to get in during the 72 hour window of the Firenze Card?

Thanks in advance for your responses.

I bought my ticket first thing in the morning and was able to make a reservation the next day, but it filled up quickly and this was in October. Have you checked the online reservations to see if you can tell what times are available? Maybe check the times within three days and see how it looks. For sure make the reservation as soon as you get the card.

A very wise question, actually, and the answer is even more confusing. The Firenze card is valid for 72 hours after you activate the card at the first site you visit. The Duomo complex sites are covered in the Firenze Card, but as you said, you have to pick up a specific ticket at the Duomo complex ticket office opposite the Baptistery (not at the museum - I learned that by mistake on the first visit). Your Duomo complex ticket is valid for 48 hours once you pick it up from the ticket office. So, with all that said, if you’re there all week and looking to stretch out activity timeline, you could pick up your Duomo complex ticket toward the end of your Firenze Card timeline, then still have 2 days for the Duomo complex. And yes, start checking times now for climbing the cupola. Since they implemented metal detector machines at all of the Duomo complex buildings, the amount of time to get inside each place is painfully long.

Happy planning!

About this:

------ I've also seen that I can order the combo ticket online and make the reservation now, but I would have to pay for it separately from the Firenze Card.

I just looked at the Firenza card site and says you must make the Duomo climb reservation at the Ticket Office (across from the Baptistery). I did not see any information reporting you can make a climb reservation on-line. I could not quickly find an official website for the Duomo. Was that a commercial vendor or tour?

How long will you be in Florence? If for more than 3 full days, It might be worth your money to buy the Firenza card and the separate Duomo pass and visit the Duomo sites before or after the 72 hours you will spend on the other sites covered by the Firenza card. If not, good luck choosing what to do in those 72 hours! The climb is definitely worth it. I suggest an early morning climb: it will be less crowed at the top.

If you miss an opportunity to climb the Duomo, do consider a climb up the tower. You will get a close-up look at the outside of the cathedral as well as spectacular views of the city.

Also, do go to the official Firenza Card site, click on the Learn More button then click on the Watch It button. You will not get to a video, but to a chart of all the hours of operations opening times of the sites covered by the card, including any special closing times during June (you will have to look at this closer to June). This will be useful in scheduling your time.

I was just in Florence at the end of March. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions...while my visit is fresh in my mind.

Becky, this is the official website for the Duomo complex:

https://www.museumflorence.com

I did not see any information reporting you can make a climb
reservation on-line.

If you pre-order tickets via the website, it does allow you to make a reservation for the dome after making the purchase. On the ordering page....

https://grandemuseodelduomo.waf.it/en/cumulative-ticket-great-museum-of-the-cathedral-of-florence

...see this text on the right side: "Have you already purchased the Cumulative Ticket?
Book your entrance to the monuments!"

Clicking that text brings up the page for using the ticket's barcode to schedule a time. This option just doesn't apply to the Firenzecard.
