Thanks for your willingness to help. For the private gondolier rides, do you have to take them from one gondolier station to another gondolier station or can you pick up at a gondolier station and be dropped off at a specific address (such as a restaurant or hotel)?

Do you mean dock, but not specific "gondolier station"? How do I find that out? I'm staying at Ca San Trovaso.

I'd then have to take a traghetto to Dorsoduro side...

You can take a gondola from anywhere that you see a gondolier. They will take you on a set route, starting and finishing at the same place.
They are not really intended as point to point transport.
They will probably charge more to go off-route, but it can be done. They also may suggest a route that gets you close enough to where you want to go.
By the way, you ride the gondola, not the gondolier.
