Duino vs Trieste

Hi everyone! I'm going to be hiking the Alpe Adria trail with my sister in late June, and will end up in Duino, Italy. After walking for 11 days on end, I'd like to spend a day resting and relaxing, while still taking in some nice sights, culture, and food.

I'm trying to decide if my sister and I should stay in Duino for our rest day, before taking a bus to Trieste and a train back to Ljubljana, or if it would be better to go straight to Trieste and spend our rest day there.

Any input?

Trieste is a most agreeable city with all the grandeur fit for what once was the major port of the Austrian-Hungarian empire. It would almost be sinful not to stay there and enjoy it. Have a coffee or afternoon drink at the majestic Piazza Unita d'Italia, and your dinner at one of the al fresco restaurants along the atmospheric Canal Grande.
