Hi all,
I am staying in Sienna for 3 nights and for at least 1 full day i would like to hire a car and drive around the region. Can anyone give me a driving itinary to follow. Id like to visit a few of the hill towns and experiance the "country-side" of tuscany. (I want to avoid the big cities). Thanks!
So many choices! We drove from Siena to Monteriggioni and Volterra one day, then to Montalcino another. From Montacino we loved the drive up to Montepulciano through Pienza. The Slow Travel website has some great ideas for drives, too http://www.slowtrav.com/italy/tuscany/index.htm.
Thanks Laurel, I was thinking about driving from Siena down to Montepulciano and back up. CAN'T WAIT!!
Does your hotel or B&B offer parking? We were a bit non-plussed about where to park but found out our B&B had a "secret" spot the rented for €10 per night.
Siena is a very popular town, and a must see. It's also very expensive place to stay. If you have not already made hotel plans, there are many reasonably priced places to stay outside of the city in the Agritustimos. Just ask your hotel desk where they would suggest going on day trips. San Gim and Volterra are a one day itinerary. There are other towns to visit, like Montalcino that have great wineries to visit. Chianti is to the north, and wine tours are available. We intend to knock around the countryside in April for a week. We might sleep late one day, drink a little local chianti wine, and eat at our bed and breakfast's great restaurant. You didn't mention anything about Florence. I hope you are spending a few days there. It's a premier city of the world.
