4 adults traveling so we thought we would pick up shampoo, mouth wash and stuff once we land and not take up space in carry ons.
Is there a chain store or the like in Venice where we can grab that type of stuff? We found places like this in Germany but not sure as Venice is a small island.
Thanks!!
People who live in Venice also need shampoo and stuff, so, yes, there are stores in Venice that sell that. Where is your lodging?
You can find all of the above in a CONAD grocery store.
Small grocery store should have all that
Search “CONAD Venice” on Google maps
Pharmacies don’t usually carry that type of product
Of course they use shampoo!! Hahaha
But is it a chain or will we find it in a grocery or a separate chemist shop?
In Amsterdam we had to go to a specific shop that sells medicine to get cold meds not in the grocery or in the “target” style chain store.
We are staying near the Zattere area in Dorsoduro.
Great! Thank you so much.
Yes medicines have to be purchased in a pharmacy, but you can find shampoo, shower gel, etc. at grocery stores, specialized "Acqua e Sapone" stores (I have no idea if Venice has one), or pharmacies for more rarefied brands.
Edit to add :
Yes, Venice has an 'Acqua e Sapone' on Ca Rezzonico according to Google. They should have trial-sized Marvis toothpaste, which makes great stocking stuffers in my opinion !!
See above post about CONAD
In Europe
Drug stores or PHARMACIES are for drugs, medication, health care products
Shampoo toothpaste etc are not really health care products so they are in grocery type stores.
Cold meds are a medicine so would not be found in a grocery store
You might even find a few of these type things (shampoos toothpaste) in corner Tabacs (although overpriced)
Nice small grocery store a few blocks from Venice train station.
Perfect. Just the info I was looking for. Thank you!
As to your comment that Venice is a small island, the current permanent population of the historical center is about 50 000 inhabitants.
Another chain to look for is Coop. They have several minimarkets and a few larger size supermarkets in Venice.
Thank you.
Yes, small population for sure. It’s all perspective I guess. My small town college football stadium holds almost 90,000 people.
I appreciate everyone’s help in understanding where to purchase sundry items. As always, this forum is the best place to find information quickly.
There are also stores in Italy named Tigota.
I see there is one , looking at google maps, on the Strada Nova , which is the main route everyone walks through Venice on.
They sell all kinds of beauty and hair care products.
Appreciate the tip!!
Not for needs like toothpaste or mouthwash, but I have found a handy store to be alert to in European cities is L'Occitane. Lots of travel sizes for shampoo, soap, scent, wipes, etc. Made my trip much easier one warm summer in the south of France when my shoes got too ripe to live with, and I got some nice spray scent for them - saved me. There is a L'Occitane in Venice, now near the train station, it seems.
I just returned from Venice. I found the perfect spot for the sundries I needed. Store was Caddy's. I was at a hotel on Grand Canal and it was just a few short streets away-5 minutes. Hotel was L'Orologio.
Looked small from street, but it wound around and had everything I needed.
We just buy shampoo, etc. at the grocery store in Venice. There are two Conrad stores along the. Zattere, one at the western end and the other to the east, just past the Accademia di Belle Arti (this one is smaller).
I make a bit of an adventure out of it. I have two different kinds of cut bandages (different but similar to my memories of band aids) and a wound cream from the COOP across the little canal from the Questura used by Commissario Brunetti.
But then again pretty much everything I go to has a relationship to him, from pastries and fresh squeezed orange juice to dinner in the student quarter to coffee.
Have a bit of fun and get off the beaten path.
Pharmacies sell both shampoo and mothwash, including Listerine and Colgate mouthwash. But grocery stores sell all of that at a fraction of the price that pharmacies charge.
On any given day there are about 100,000 tourists in the historical city center of Venice, it’s not just the 50,000 permanent residents, so there are stores. The only reason why there are no large big box stores but only small shops and mini supermarkets is because the City doesn’t give permits to build those in the historical center, otherwise Walmart style stores would be there already, but there are plenty of those at Mestre in the mainland.
So, on the Zattere.
Find the San Basilio vaporetto stop.
Go about 50 metres along the Zattere.
You will see a yellow building, Conad, which is a compact supermarket.
They sell soap, shampoo and stuff like that.
Also alcohol.
