dropping off a car in Venice

We'll be driving a rental car from Sorrento to Venice, and we'll be staying near Ferry Terminal Sant'Elena. Where does it make the most sense to drop off the car? In Mestre, at the airport or at the Piazzale Roma? Thanks in advance for your help!

Piazzale Roma is my vote. Then just get a vaporetto from there.

I forgot to mention that there is a charge of 49 euros for dropping off at Piazzale Roma. Do you think the convenience is worth it?

Wouldn't you have to go out of your way to go all the way to the airport? Dropping the car in Mestre means taking the train to Santa Lucia station in Venice proper- taking about 15 min and less than €2 pp. Cheaper than driving on to the island and considerably cheaper (when considering the cost of getting into Venice) and much faster than dropping off at the airport.

If you do drive all the way to Piazzale Roma, be SURE to drive UNDER the speed limit. There are multiple postings on this forum of folks receiving tickets on the causeway bridge for driving just BARELY over the speed limit.

Given that it costs extra for Piazzale Roma, next best would be at Mestra station, as it is a cheap and frequent train ride to Venice S. Lucia station where you get a vaporetto to Lido. From the airport, you can take the Alilaguna Blue line to Lido

Thanks so much to all of you for the suggestions. Sounds like Mestre drop-off is the way to go.
