Hello again
Thank you for the information on essentially no car rentals open on Sunday. I have resolved that issue by changing up the dates. My next question, we will be driving from the Dolomites to Venice. What would be your recommendation for where to turn in the rental car outside of Venice proper close to train or other transport into Venice? Thank you
Rate check notwithstanding, if you drop the car off in Mestre you can take the
tram across the bridge into Piazzale Roma.
Drop in Mestre or Piazzale Roma
If you plan to spend the night in the historical center of Venice, then definitely Piazzale Roma.
Most Rental car returns are at the Municipal Parking Structure here.
On the causeway (Ponte della Libertà or Liberty Bridge) connecting the historical center to Mestre in the mainland there are numerous speed cameras. Don’t exceed the 70 km/h speed limit.
From there walk to the vaporetto stop and catch a boat to the stop closer to your hotel.
hey hey carolyn
make sure you and any other obtains an IDP (aaa.com/IDP) which is mandatory in italy here in the states before you arrive in italy. look at the rental car agencies are open, times and days. some close early noon and closed sundays. read the laws and rules, signage of driving in italy.
see if a place open before arriving in venice and take the train, piazzale roma in venice or maestre outside venice or VCE (venice airport) do your research and be prepared with all your options.
