Re Florence: The best strategy for OVERNIGHT parking in Florence is to book a hotel that provides secure overnight parking, it's worth paying the going rate which will not be cheap. Ideally this hotel would be located within easy access to the main highway you would be arriving on. When you need overnight parking, something to avoid is booking a hotel in the pedestrian zone where cars are severely restricted. I once made this mistake.
