Major roads stay clear all year long. The only times when mobility becomes a problem are during and immediately after a major snow storm... and at the altitudes of most of the autobahns, these almost never occur in October.

If you take the car, you will have to have the Swiss Vignette (decal) installed correctly on your car. It costs about $40 at the border. You could even drive another few miles into the Lauterbrunnen Valley and park at either the pay garage at the Lauterbrunnen train station or a bit farther in at the pay lot in Stechelberg gondola station (gondola to Gimmelwad). From the lower valley, you can visit the higher villages where tourist cars are not permitted. In lste October, you could experience some early snow. If you have 3-4 people in your party, this could save you some money. For the train, it's one hour on the local Regionale train back to Milan Centrale and then north on the higher-speed EuroCity trains to Spiez where you change trains for the short ride into Interlaken. Overall, it's a 6.0hr journey.
