Driving To Borghese Gallery

We are driving back to Rome from Siena the day before we return home. We would like to see the Borghese but can't decide if we should return our rental car and check-in at the Hilton aiport hotel and than take the free shuttle into Rome and go to the Gallery. A friend suggested we drive to the gallery first and than drive to the hotel. I don't want to drive in the city if it's crazy. Anyone know if there is parking by the gallery and what the drive is like? Parking costs?

There is an underground car park under the park between the Borghese Gallery and the Spanish Steps.

You don't say so in your post, but I hope you know that you need reservations to the Borghese.

BTW - don't overshoot the car park by too much. A ZTL starts about 3 or 4 blocks south of the park, just south of Ludovisi as I remember.

The route you will take into Rome will get you to the Corso d'Italia that morphs into Viale del Muro Torto which is a divided boulevard. The entrance to the lot underneath the park is, I recall, on the side opposite from where you will be, which will require you to keep going, down to Pz Popolo and then to figure out how to get headed back in the right direction back up into the park. This could be an adventure. There is a public above ground parking building across the street from the Hotel Eden which would be easy to get to from the Corso d'Italia. I've never used it and I do not know the hours. No ZTL's would be involved. The real adventure will be following the route out of Rome. Good luck with that one. All in all, this project will involve a lot of hassle, particularly syncing it with you entry time for the museum. I've stayed at that Hilton several times for my last night. By the way the food is terrible, but the pool is wonderful. Why not check in and then do the short drive to the Ostia Antica ruins.

Thank you everyone for the information. We have decided to not drive into the City center. A "friend" told us that the gallery is very close to the loop road--NOT. We will definitely make reservations for the afternoon after we drop off the car and take the shuttle in.
