Will be driving from the Lake Como area on a Saturday night in July to Riva del Garda. Google Maps suggests taking the A9 toward Milan. Do I want to get near the big city? The SP342 seems more direct, but likely a slower road.
Does anyone have first hand experience driving this route? What do you suggest? What can I expect?

Where exactly on lake Como?
If from the city of Como, taking the freeway A9 will be faster, than the Provincial highway route, which is two lane, going thru towns, with speed limits ranging from 50km/h to a max of 70km/h (30 to 40 mph). On the freeway the speed limit is 130km/h (80mph) therefore although somewhat longer in length it will be faster because your average speed will be at least double the speed.
Just try to avoid the morning rush hour around Milan's beltway. Leave later in the morning.
Will be leaving at 6pm from Cresciano, Switzerland passing near the town of Como on the south shore. Sounds like the slightly longer A9 toward Milan is the way to go. Thanks for the advice.
