Driving times

Any great way to get accurate driving times?

Is it reasonable to go from Sperlonga to Trequanda in one day? Possible to do it and not go on major thouroughfares?

Same question from Venezia to Vernazza? Or better to stop for a night in Petromoli?

We used viamichelin.com for estimated driving times and to get a sense of which route we might want to take. We found this very useful, even with the use of the navigation system in our rental car. We would adjust the routing type (highway vs. most direct, etc.) to suit our desires.

As for doing Venezia to Vernazza as a day trip, we did the reverse trip earlier this month, and it was an easy trip. We did the more direct route (rather than all highway), to travel through smaller towns, which was nice. We were also hoping to stop for a nice lunch, but, due to siesta, we couldn't find anything and ended up eating at the Autogrill (not bad, actually!) when we ended up back on the highway.

We left the Vernazza parking lot 11:00ish and arrived at Piazzale Roma 6:00ish, and that included stops for lunch and fuel.

Use via Michelin to get estimates. Many say their estimates are overly optimistic.

We stopped at Modena between Venice and Vernazza. It took a long time to get out of parking in Venice to get on the road. Park on the mainland and take the train into Venice, you will save time and money.

Haven't driven from Sperlonga to Trequanda but have from Venezia to Cinque Terra many times. It is a very easy trip in a day.

Carole - we find viamichelin.com to be a great website for trip planning. Except for the times we got lost or there was roadwork we didn't find their time estimates to be too far off the track. Having said that we try not to do too many hours any one day, instead we build in stops and sights along the way to see so that we may spend the whole day driving before we get to our night stay, but we planned it that way.

I found via michelin's driving instructions really long to print out. Didn't really understand their system of putting one line of instructions in a big rectangle. Otherwise, I really liked their system of choosing routes - sightseeing, highway, without tolls, fastest, shortest, etc.
