Has anybody driven straight from Milan's Malpensa airport to Genova? Was it pretty direct? Would you do it after just arriving from a 15-hour flight? Thanks!
my only caution about driving after a long flight is this: As long as you are driving in daylight, I'd consider it. Once the sun goes down it all closes in on you. This time of year, of course, days are long. 18 months ago we did in in late fall, sun went down at 5:30 or 6, driving a two lane road in hard rock mountains, and road construction forced us off of the main road and onto the old serpentine road, all in the pitch dark. Not fun.
Michael - I too would be concerned about driving the route in darkness. I have driven that route and the Autoroute in the Genoa area is a nice wide road - but lots of twists and turns and countless tunnels. I did fine - but I did it in the daylight. On the Autoroute it will not take too long (3hrs?) Check viamichelin for the exact time and distance. Have fun.
