We are driving from Perugia to Milan Malpensa Airport to catch a plane. Best Route to take. How much time do we need to set aside to drive, drop off rental at airport and make a plane flight at 17:15. Flying Easyjet. When to check in before flight?

It's at least a six hour drive. You'll drive to the A1, the main north-south freeway in Italy. It will take you to Milan. Circle around Milan to the A8 and follow the signs to Malpensa. Dropping off at the airport is easy - the car rental returns are in the parking garage across the street. Allow a minimum of two hours to check in for your plane flight. Three would be better.

If you don't have a GPS, you really can trust Google Maps to give you the best route and a close time estimate.
Go to http://maps.google.com/
Click Get Directions in the upper left area of the screen.
Enter Perugia in the A box and
Enter Milan Malpensa Airport in the B box
Click the Get Directions Button
It will map you a route that takes about 5 hours (assuming no stops along the way), and give turn-by-turn directions right to the airport.
Of course, to get it more exact, also enter the street address you're leaving from in Perugia.
I always plan to arrive at airports 2 hours before flight time, but I'm paranoid about missing flights. Many people seem to enjoy cutting things much closer!
