Driving Matera to Salerno, any road closure ie.E847?

We will be driving on early June from Matera to Salerno. The fastest driving route suggested by gmaps is via E847 but there's a warning sign on the route and a note 'Avoid road closure on E847'. is this just temporary closure or the road has been closed for a long time?

Can you use the real road numbers? I don't know what to look for on Autostrade and ANAS sites.

Hi Jen. It seems to say that this route "avoids" the road closure, so Google maps has already taken that into account and given you a route. If you zoom in you can see the road closure ; it seems like you just have to take another short detour to join the E847 again.

Hi Mike, thanks! I see your point. Yes , it seems gmaps already directs the route avoiding that road closure. it seems it goes through a certain unpaved roads and row of trees though. the street view is pretty outdated from 2015. when i try to point the 'golden guy' there, it just shows pitch black view.

E-something is the EU numbering system that nobody except gmaps and EU bureaucrats uses. It's stupid, it doesn't say anything about the kind of road you'll be driving on. Every road is called E+nuber as if an "A" tolled motorway and an "SP" local road were the same thing while driving through the mountains.

Out of a couple of exceptions nobody in Italy calls roads by that system.

You'll see those codes only on the green motorway signs, but even on those signs it will be written in a smaller character under the real code. Out of the tolled network the EU system will disappear and you'll see only SS and SP codes to identify the roads on blue signs, expect something like this:

Jen, I rode the SITA bus from Salerno to Matera on May 2nd. As others have posted, it is just a matter of bypassing some bridge construction. It caused of delay of no more than 15-20 minutes to the entire trip.
