I will be traveling to Italy in the summer and I would love to go see the village where my family is from. The only problem is that it is located 150 km outside of Naples. I am considering renting a car in Naples and driving there but I have heard horror stories about driving in Naples. Anyone have any opinions on the matter?
Rent your car at the Naples airport and you can hop right onto the autostrada without having to drive into the city at all.
We were in Naples last year, on foot. All the horror stories about traffic are not exaggerated. We were in Rome and although the traffic was bad, they at least stop for red lights, because they really don't in Naples.
I don't have any problem driving in Naples, it's just one more big city where it's easier to walk or use public transportation once you get settled. I'd get the car as close as possbile to where you're staying instead of chasing all over hell's half acre. If nobody stops at red lights, how come I spend so much time in stopped traffic waiting for the signal to change?
Michael, Pretend you're on the Black Canyon, rush hour' friday afternoon...Naples is not that much different. Once out of the city proper, it's a tuesday mid- morning drive to Prescott.
