Driving in Florence

Our Italy itenerary includes driving from an agriturismo where we'll be staying in Poppi, to drop off our rental car at the Avis in Florence. Then, we plan on walking to the Florence S.M.N. to board the train bound for Vernazza (10 min. walk per Google maps). My question: How difficult will it be to drive to this Avis without getting lost or getting a ticket for accidentally driving in a ZTL? Thanks.

If you were to approach Florence from the south, and the Avis you mention is the one on Via Borgo Ognissanti, then you would not be entering the the ZTL (although you would be very close to it). One wrong turn, or an encounter with a one-way street, and you might find yourself over the line. You should contact the Avis office, since they have probably answered this question many times. They could suggest a route, or possibly provide a map.

We just returned from a trip to Florence. When we needed to get a car, we took the train to Lucca and got it there. Very happy we did. I suggest you look for another Avis location, perhaps in Prato outside Florence, then take the train from there. Good luck.
