I will be staying about 30 miles south of Florence and will have a car. Will be taking the train from Florence several times to various other locations for day trips. Can anyone give advice on driving in and out of the city to/from Santa Maria Novella train station? Also, any recommendations for parking in that area would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.
A relatively new tram project has reduced space for cars in the station's piazza, to the point that reaching it may be slow due to traffic, difficult due to lanes reserved to public transportation, and the only parking in the area is the underground park under the station that is quite expensive. Probably the easiest thing to do will be parking along the A1 at the Villa Costanza exit and taking the T1 tram to city center, about 20 minutes.
Thank you for the information. I will look in to doing that. I really appreciate the great information.
lachera has a great idea. Trying to get near SMN puts you in jeopardy of driving through a costly ZTL. By parking near one of the tram stops, it’ll take you to the door of the station. Trams are frequent and inexpensive. Don’t forget to validate your ticket onboard. Take either T1 or T2. Pull up the area near a possible stop on Google maps and highlight parking!
