Driving from Verona to Bergamo via Brescia

We're planning our fourth trip to Italy, for late April to mid-May 2013. Much to my surprise, we're actually thinking of renting a car for the portion in which we'll be in the Veneto and Lombardia. We'll be in Verona for five nights or so, doing daytrips in the area. (It will be our 2nd time in Verona, since we enjoyed it so much the first time.) Then we'll go to Bergamo for a few nights before ditching the rental car and training to Rome. I'm wondering about the drive between the two cities. I'm not crazy about hopping on the A4, esp. if there is a more scenic route to get there (perhaps with a stopover in Brescia?) I thought I would hop on here and solicit any comments, thoughts, suggestions, etc. Thanks, all.

The road between Verona and Bergamo is not very scenic, normal roads and many factories. I recommend the highway.

Grazie, Claudio. I had given up hope for any response.

For scenic roads you should do, in my opinion, significant deviations,
at least 50, 60 km.

I second what Claudio said, it's a quick drive on the A4 and with the time you'll save, use it to do more sightseeing. Maybe throw in a drive around Lago di Garda somewhere in there if you want some beautiful scenery.

Our plans have changed somewhat since I originally posted this. We're now going to be traveling from Bergamo to Verona, and we'll have a car for at least part of the time we're in Verona (five days total in Verona). It appears to be cheaper (through autoeurope.com) to rent a car and drive from Bergamo to Verona than to wait until we arrive in Verona to rent one. Go figure.
