We are traveling to Italy in July and staying in Tuscany for a week and than onto Positano. We do have a car for Tuscany and were wondering if anyone as driven the coast from there and how difficult was it? We know we can take the train and get a driver to pick us up in Naples or the ferry and bus to Positano. There will be five of us, three teenage kids. Would really like to know if anyone has done it in July, I know it's a busy season in South.
We have driven from Cortona to Positano in September. It was a breeze until we got near Naples. We got there around rush hour and it took us forever to get to the other side of Sorrento. Even past Sorrento though, traffic was moving very slowly on the Amalfi highway. I drove from Positano to Sorrento and back one day, we went there to catch the train to Herculaneum and Pompeii, and I didn't think it was too bad but my husband says never again and that if we go back he is ditching the car at Naples (or before) and taking trains, buses and ferries between the Amalfi towns.
