We will be visiting Sicily and southern Italy in the month of May and are considering renting a car in Palermo, driving to Argrigento, and then toward Taormina and returning it someplace in southern Italy where we can get a plane to Nice. I'm wondering what drive is preferable... along the coast, or through the interior (via Villa Romana del Casale). I've been to VRC before and found it to be fascinating but don't feel that it's necessary to return unless this is a better route. Any advice is welcome.
From Agrigento, you could veer South and hit something in the area of Ragusa, Modica, or Noto. Syracuse/Ortigia is also a great stop if you have not been.
For Nice, you could fly out of Catania, no direct flights, but that is probably the largest airport until you get to Naples.
But have a close look: Such a oneway rental be exeptional expensive, if even possible.
Thanks for your responses.
