What is some interesting scenery to focus on or places to stop at during our drive? (short hikes, small towns, villas, etc.)

When we drive through the countryside we just stop when some thing or some place calls out to us!

Yes, DO NOT drive into the city center of Florence or any other city with a historic city center for that matter. Florence has a ZTL, a restricted traffic zone, where only permitted cars are allowed to venture. There are numerous posts here about the ZTL in Florence. It is comprised of 5 interconnected zones and if you pass into the ZTL or from one zone to another, you will get a very stiff fine (for each infraction). Avoid driving into the Florence city center like the plague.
