Has anyone done this drive North to Bolzano, Ortisei, Cortina d'Ampezzo South through Vittorio to Venice? Google Maps say it's a 6 hour drive... we have limited time and cannot stay overnight on this drive but would like to at least see the Dolomites on our way to Venice.
This would be early next October, 2016 in a station wagon with 4 adults.

viamichelin gives it more like 7, add an hour for lunch. Should be lovely if you luck out and have nice weather on your planned date.

You need more that that, because you will likely have many pit stops for photos and food and to visit some towns. I have done something similar in reverse once. It was also in early October many years ago. I was coming from Croatia and going back home to Florence with that detour. I started from Longarone where I spent the night and made it to Merano by late afternoon early evening. Made lots of stops along the way including a slight detour to lake Misurina and the Cime di Lavaredo. Leave early, you'll like the drive.
