Driving from Puglia to Bologna

Hello everyone! Seeking advice.

My friend and I will be visiting the Puglia region and driving to Bologna/Parma over the course of two or three days at the beginning of October. Google maps shows driving up the coastline but I'm a little concerned with the weather. If you have driven the coastline in October, how was it?

Also, it seems there are a lot of little provinces on the way. What is your favorite?

Thank you for any advice you can give!

Hi Tina!
We live in the North of Italy and Puglia is our favourite place on mainland Italy so we drive up and down that motorway a lot. There are no problems anytime of the year except traffic on summer weekends. What worries you in October specifically? We usually come back from Puglia in October.
Over the years we have stopped in many different places. It depends if you want a couple of one night stops or one longer one and whether you are starting off from the north or south of Puglia.
Nice places we have stopped:
Termoli
Vasto
Teramo and Ascoli piceno (both a little way off the motorway)
Ancona and many places near there: Jesi, Loreto, Osimo, Offagna, Conero like Numana) for example: https://slowtravelitalyspain.blogspot.com/2022/11/offagna-osimo-ancona.html?m=1
Rimini (not just beaches and night life, especially in October- a charming historical centre too)
Gradara
Comacchio

Thank you North Italy for so much helpful advice. I have especially enjoyed reading the blog. I live near a coast line and it's very stormy much of the time so driving in heavy rains in unfamiliar territory concerns me.

Glad to help. It's a normal motorway and it is set back a little from the coast. There are nice views of the sea occasionally but the motorway runs inland of the large or small towns on the coast. You might have a day or half day of rain in October but are unlikely to have consistent bad weather.
