Driving from Pompeii to Positano

We will be driving from Pompeii to Positano and we have heard that the roads can be challenging - we would welcome any advice regarding driving. We have 5 of us travelling and will have a medium sized car.

Last summer we drove the Amalfi 2 times and it was crazy. My girlfriend watched the scenery and I watched the road...intently. Also, we used a Garmin 260w with the NT Europe maps. It was extremely helpful. Driving in Italy is always an adventure in motoring.

Buon viaggio,

If you're used to driving in the mountains with narrow winding roads and some switchbacks then this is not too bad. Driving IN Sorrento was much more stressful. I can imagine that this road is very busy during high season and in the morning and late afternoon when most people are coming in or leaving. When we did the drive it was already closer to lunch (we were waiting for the fog to lift) and even though this was in the middle of June the streets weren't busy at all. The only "slow down" was when we got stuck behind a British Porsche driver who was much slower than necessary - according to my husband who was driving our car. It can be difficult to find parking though. So pick the first spot you come across even if it doesn't seem to be the best one.

Thanks for all your thoughts. We will have a Navman with us which will help with the navigating and we will have already had 2 weeks experience of driving around Italy behind us. As we will be there in the high season it is a great thought to plan to travel the route outside the peak times. Thanks again.
